Do You. Allow Others To Do The Same

This article is comprised of a Facebook memory I’m likely going to keep recycling every year. I felt compelled to write this post on Facebook back in 2017 after somebody completely chastised me for not going fully vegan when I said I had stopped eating meat (100% for ethical reasons). I have been following a pescatarian diet for two years, and it is working so well for ME.

“When most people are implementing changes to their lifestyle, whether it is to their workouts, nutrition, or something else, it is absolutely unrealistic to expect a complete and dramatic overhaul to occur overnight, and in many instances, ever. Rather than chastising and tearing people to shreds for not being ”perfect,” maybe we should actually praise them for making an effort and implementing positive habits, and encourage them.

So many people fail to make permanent changes to their lifestyle because they are expected to be ”perfect” right away, or at any point. As this is not realistic for most people, they get discouraged, or become way too stressed out, and revert to their old ways, and oftentimes worse. I should add, there is no such thing as ”perfect,” and people need to do what works and feels best for them.

Preaching perfection, or forcing YOUR own views down people’s throats (applies to nutrition, fitness, YOUR preferred body type, religion, politics, sexuality, and absolutely everything), and scolding them when they don’t live up to YOUR expectations/views, or YOUR own preferred lifestyle, is absolutely not the right way to get through to people. End of rant.”
