I’ve been a coach for over 18 years, and am so grateful for the job I get to do every day. I’ve worked with people of all genders, ages, and backgrounds from all around the world. For the first 14.5 years, I coached exclusively in person. For the past two years, I’ve been coaching people exclusively online (in part due to the pandemic).
The high quality coaching and educating I have been consistently doing for years has brought me many fantastic clients (and human beings as I ONLY work with good people), including a president/CEO of my all-time favorite MLB baseball team, athletes, countless coaches/personal trainers, general population, and new followers from many continents. Being able to work with amazing people from around the world is a gift I will always cherish, and one I will never take for granted.
When it comes to my coaching, my content, and my own training, I use a “3 E” approach. I always want my clients (or people who follow my work, or use my products/programs) to feel EDUCATED, EMPOWERED, and EXCITED. The “3 E’s” have been a total game-changer for me as a coach, and as an educator.
I have presented at numerous conferences (and have been on many podcasts), and take great pleasure in sharing my passion and knowledge with as many people as I can.
I’m a life-long athlete. I played competitive soccer for 27 years, and also grew up playing ice hockey and baseball on boys teams. One of my athletic highlights was when I was a kid, I made the majors baseball all-star team that competed to qualify for the little league world series. I was the only girl in the entire league. While we didn’t qualify for the major tournament, being the starting first baseman, and batting second in the line-up, was very special for me. I grew up an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, and even went to some games. I am still a HUGE Blue Jays fan!
In terms of my own training, I’ve achieved incredible feats of strength with body control and calisthenics exercises like muscle-ups, pull-ups, push-ups, back levers, bent arm handstands, pistol squats, etc. I also learned and mastered many of these skills (the more advanced calisthenics exercises) in my late 30s. I take great pride in being an athlete, and always will. But most of all, my training brings me so much joy and empowerment. I want the people who work with me (or who follow me) to experience the same!
In addition to calisthenics, I do a lot of strength training using dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, etc, and I love doing cardio (no, doing cardio is NOT bad!!). Now in my early 40s, I feel stronger, more athletic, and more resilient/healthier than I ever have! I have a very well rounded approach to training.
When I was 28, I was in a really bad car accident. After spending 5 years going from doctor to doctor, I finally found somebody who could tell me what was causing all of my symptoms and injuries (lesson learned: steer clear of medical practitioners who ONLY treat symptoms and don’t look to address the cause).
Despite many low points and moments of doubt, I fought until I found an answer, and I learned a lot about myself in the process. This ordeal has helped shape me as a person and coach, and was actually a blessing (even though it didn’t feel like it at the time). I will never take my health and ability to train for granted again.
In 2017, a whole new world opened up to my teachings and passion with the release of my first book, The Ultimate Pull-Up Program. This program was an instant success, partly due to the exceptional quality and detail (I REALLY went above and beyond with this program, and all of the programs I’ve released since). Since 2017, THOUSANDS of people of all genders and backgrounds from at least 86 countries have been following my pull-up program. My pull-up program was also recently featured in The New York Times (How To Master The Pull-Up).
I realized and honed my gift for program writing and cues for clients, and I will always keep learning and improving. As of 2021, I have created four additional programs that have seen great success: The Ultimate Push-Up Program, The Ultimate Lower Body And Core Program, The Ultimate Pistol Squat Program, and The Ultimate Landmine Program.
Due to my consistent success and development, even during tough economic and health times, I have also grown as a business coach (this wasn’t originally in my plans). I’ve helped other coaches and trainers achieve success by implementing my strategies for consistency, audience and brand growth. I currently have over 100,000 Instagram followers, and it’s growing daily.
Since 2003, I’ve been an American Council on Exercise certified personal trainer. I also majored in human kinetics (kinesiology) at the University of British Columbia, and minored in psychology.
When I’m not working, I love spending time with my cats Bailey and Erick. I’m also a voracious reader, and love music. For the past 2+ years I’ve been learning Swedish, and have also been refreshing my French (I am once again fully fluent).
