Many people struggle to perform this movement correctly. \u2063\u2063\u2063 \u2063<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The video on the left highlights several mistakes you often see. I intentionally didn\u2019t make my form \u2018\u2019too bad\u2019\u2019 as many people are often in this in-between zone. There are MANY other mistakes I could have included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Hip Hinging: Form Fix\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r6YaJUNPeEo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-background\" style=\"background-color:#eef0f1\"><strong>Bad Form \ud83d\ude11 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I perform the \u2018\u2019hinge\u2019\u2019 by collapsing my torso and chest towards the floor, and my spine goes into flexion (although sometimes the spine can stay in a neutral position so many people, including coaches, do not catch this mistake). <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>My hips barely travel backwards.\u2063 Close to all of the movement is coming via my torso, chest, and lower back, and there is minimal tension in my posterior chain muscles. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I liken the above to a bird drinking water and use this analogy a lot, as that\u2019s essentially what I look like here.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I am reaching down with my arms\/the weights in an attempt to go \u2018\u2019lower.\u2019\u2019 Lower is not always better! \u2063\u2063\u2063 \u2063\u2063\u2063<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left has-background\" style=\"background-color:#eef0f1\"><strong>Good Form \ud83d\ude07 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I initiate the movement by hinging\/pushing my hips backwards. You can pretend a rope is pulling your hips backwards or that you are trying to press your hips back against a wall.\u2063\u2063\u2063\u2063\u2063 Some people also like to imagine they are shutting a car door with their glutes. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>During the hinge, my torso does not collapse towards the floor, and my back remains in a neutral position\/doesn\u2019t change shape. \u2063\u2063\u2063 <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>My posterior chain muscles are bearing most of the load. \u2063\u2063\u2063 <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>I am keeping tension in my upper body, and the weights are gliding down my legs as I perform the hinge.
